University fee's rise

Why is it so important that university is specified to the middle/higher classes? Does it really matter were we come from if we want to better ourselves and make something of our lives? the government are in talks to raise the cost of university tuition fees to up to £7000 per year; one reason being to attempt to discourage those in low income families from attending university. Why do we even have to pay for university anyway? It’s ridiculous that students are in so much debt before they have even entered the real world and have to take out a mortgage, pay bills etc. And now they want to double the price? How many students who read this can say they or their parents are in a position to be able to leave university debt free?
